JOB DESCRIPTION

A client in the public sector and located in Hamilton is looking to fill their temporary position of Financial Coordinator! This position will report to the Director of Finance and Facilities, and has potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Assisting  with the preparation and coordination of the annual Operating and Capital Budget Submission and the analysis and preparation of Budget Variance Reports
  • Providing direction to other staff on financial and administrative functions & procedures
  • Developing, for review and approval, and maintaining up to date job related policies and procedures;
  • Analyzing financial data in a computerized accounting system including preparing journals, inputting data, balancing, initiating and processing computerized general ledger transactions
  • Reviewing capital contract tender related purchase requisitions and vendor invoices to ensure appropriate expenditures and approvals
  • Maintaining and coordinating contract payments
  • Assisting in the preparation and co-ordination of monthly expenditure/revenue budget exception variance analysis and reports
  • Assisting in the year-end process by reviewing and analyzing accounts and balances and preparing audit working papers
  • Supporting departments in their preparation, development, monitoring and forecasting of current and capital budgets by gathering revenue, expense and other budget related data
  • Assisting with monthly monitoring of expenditures, investigating discrepancies and providing corrections as required. Bring all foreseeable budget variances to the attention of the Director. Analyze accounts as required.
  • Assisting the Director with the monitoring of operating and capital budgets; receives inquiries from staff on status of budget for various accounts, reviews transactions and reports on status and availability of funds

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • University Degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Economics or other related field
  • Minimum of 3 years progressive accounting experience
  • Detailed and advanced knowledge in Excel
  • An understanding and ability to interpret financial statements
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and orally
  • Knowledge and work experience with Oracle PeopleSoft is preferred
  • Experience in a unionized municipal environment is preferred
