JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Summary
The Accounting Manager will be responsible for all required accounting functions including full cycle financial reports to determine or maintain record of assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, prepare a complete set of financial statements, manage accounts, prepare journal entries, postings to sub-ledgers and general ledger reconciliation of balance sheet accounts to sub-ledgers, assure reconciliation of payroll accounts and remittance of amounts withheld.  Assure cash management, preparing weekly and monthly statements and monitor investments.

WGM is a hybrid work environment requiring one to two days a week in our downtown Toronto Offices with the remaining time working from home.  The company supplies all the required equipment such as computers to allow its staff to work remotely.

Salary Range: $68,000-75,000 Cdn.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare, examine, or analyze accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
  • Prepare monthly financial and operating statements.
  • Prepare employee and Associate profit/loss statements.
  • Establish tables of accounts and assign entries to the proper accounts.
  • Assure required government filings are completed in a timely manner.
  • Preparation of all activities related to Accounts Receivable.
  • Manage cash accounts, approve cheque runs, and liaise with bank(s).
  • Liaise with ADP to ensure accurate and timely payroll.
  • Prepare journal entries and handle government remittances, including T4, and entering all data into accounting software.
  • Assure benefits, WSIB, pensions, and related items are appropriately reported.
  • Prepare audit working papers, as required.
  • Verify accuracy of billing data and revise and errors, resolve discrepancies in accounting records.
  • Manage preparation off forms in support of accounting/administrative activities including:
    • Bookkeeping work, including posting data and keeping other records concerning cost of goods and services.
    • Keep records of invoices and support documents and send to clients, as required.
    • Ensure proper client contacts in order to obtain or relay accounting information.
    • Computation of shipment charges, and rates for goods and services in order to complete billing documents.
  • Develop, implement, modify and document recordkeeping and accounting systems, making use of current computer technologies.
  • Let in the installation or adoption of new software packages to improve efficiencies in the accounting organization.
  • Analyze budgets, prepare periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs.
  • Report to management on operation, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, needs and obligations.
  • Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers, supervisors and the general public.
  • Maintain regular consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, and personal appearance.
  • Pursue personal development of skills and knowledge necessary for the effective performance of the role.
  • Must demonstrate discretion in dealing with confidential information and materials.
  • Adhere to stated policies and procedures related to the health and safety, and quality management.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
As part of the administrative support team, works co-operatively with other members of the administrative team to support and assist each other as workloads allow to ensure the required support services are delivered in a timely, efficient and professional manner.  Other duties include:

  • Attending conferences, as approved.
  • Back-up Health & Safety Representative.
  • Back-up Fire Warden.
  • Manage corporate credit card accounts.
  • Provide for emergency cash advances to staff & associates, as required.
  • Provide training to other support staff, as required.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience and Abilities Required
Knowledge:

  • Accounting designation (i.e. CPA) not required but strong knowledge of accounting fundamentals including GAAP required.
  • Knowledge of office accounting procedures.
  • Economic and accounting principles and practices, banking, and the analysis plus reporting of financial data.
  • Principles and processes for providing customer service.
  • Structure and content of the English language, including the meaningful and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Operation of standard electronic office equipment including computer hardware and software.
  • Applicable laws, legal codes and government regulations.
  • Administrative and clerical procedures and systems.
  • Up to date knowledge of Company policies and procedures.

Skills:

  • Good accounting skills.
  • Skilled with Excel and common accounting software.
  • Speak clearly, concisely and effectively; listen to, and understand, information and ideas as presented verbally.
  • Review and/or edit accounting documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Communicate information and ideas clearly, and concisely, in writing; read and understand information presented in writing.
  • Deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact and professionalism.

  • Basic first aid.
